Lou Gehrig

Henry Louis Gehrig was born on June 19, 1903, in New York City. He was the son of German immigrants, and he grew up in a working-class neighborhood. Gehrig was a gifted athlete, and he played baseball, football, and basketball in high school. He also worked as a caddy at a local golf course.

Gehrig attended Columbia University on a football scholarship, but he left after two years to pursue a career in baseball. He signed with the Yankees in 1923, and he made his major league debut in 1925. Gehrig quickly became a star, and he was one of the most feared hitters in baseball. He was known for his powerful bat and his ability to hit for average and power.

Gehrig was a key member of the Yankees' "Murderers' Row" lineup, which also included Babe Ruth, Hank Greenberg, and Joe DiMaggio. The Yankees won six World Series championships in the 1930s and 1940s, and Gehrig was a major contributor to their success.

DiMaggio was a key member of the Yankees' "Murderers' Row" lineup, which also included Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Hank Greenberg. The Yankees won six World Series championships in the 1930s and 1940s, and DiMaggio was a major contributor to their success.

In 1941, DiMaggio hit in 56 consecutive games, which is a Major League Baseball record. He also led the Yankees to a World Series championship that year.

DiMaggio served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. He returned to the Yankees after the war, and he helped the team win three more World Series championships.

DiMaggio retired from baseball in 1951. He was a 13-time All-Star, a three-time American League MVP, and a nine-time World Series champion. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955.
