By Myya Fox
Love in the Driest Season is a memoir of a woman's journey to find love and family in the midst of drought and despair. Myya Fox grew up in a small town in the middle of the Great Plains, where the only thing that seemed to grow was the wind. Her parents were farmers, and when the drought hit, they lost everything. Myya and her family were forced to leave their home and move to California, where they started over.
In California, Myya struggled to find her place. She didn't fit in at school, and she was constantly lonely. But she never gave up on her dreams of finding love and family. She eventually met her husband, and they started a family of their own.
Love in the Driest Season is a story of hope and resilience. It is a story about the power of love to overcome even the most difficult circumstances. It is a story for anyone who has ever felt lost or alone, and it is a reminder that we are all connected and that we can all find love and family.
Excerpt
"I remember the day we left our farm. I was ten years old, and I had never been so scared. We had been through a lot in the past few years. The drought had destroyed our crops, and we had lost everything. My parents were forced to sell the farm, and we had to move to California.
I didn't want to leave. I loved our farm. I loved our town. And I loved my friends. But I knew that we had to go. My parents were struggling to make ends meet, and we couldn't stay on the farm any longer.
We packed up all of our belongings and said goodbye to our friends and neighbors. It was a sad day, but we knew that we would be back someday.
We drove for days, and finally we reached California. We moved into a small apartment in a big city. It was a lot different than our farm, but we were grateful to have a roof over our heads.
I started going to a new school, and I made new friends. But I still missed my old friends and my old life. I felt like I didn't belong in California.
One day, I was walking home from school when I saw a group of kids playing in the park. I stopped to watch them, and I noticed that one of the kids was wearing a shirt from my old school.
I went over to the kid and introduced myself. We started talking, and we realized that we had a lot in common. We both loved to read, we both loved to play sports, and we both missed our old friends.
We started hanging out together, and we quickly became best friends. I was so grateful to have found someone who understood me.
My friend helped me to adjust to my new life in California. She introduced me to new people, and she showed me all the best places to go. I started to feel like I belonged.
I eventually went to college, and I met my husband. We started a family of our own, and we are now living in the same town where I grew up.
I am so grateful for the journey that I have been on. I have learned so much about myself, and I have grown so much as a person. I have also found love and family, and I am so blessed to have them in my life."
