Ferdinand Magellan: The First Names Series
Ferdinand Magellan was a Portuguese explorer who led the first expedition to circumnavigate the globe. He was born in Sabrosa, Portugal, in 1480. Magellan received a good education and was fluent in several languages. He began his career as a sailor and explorer in the Portuguese navy. He served in the Indian Ocean and the Far East. In 1513, he was part of an expedition that reached Malacca, Malaysia.
The First Circumnavigation of the Globe
