David Livingstone was born in Blantyre, Scotland, on March 19, 1813. He was the son of a poor weaver and grew up in a small village. Despite his humble beginnings, Livingstone was a bright and curious child. He attended school and excelled in his studies. At the age of 20, he began studying medicine at the University of Glasgow.

In 1840, Livingstone graduated from medical school and was ordained as a Congregationalist minister. He then traveled to Africa as a missionary. He spent the next 15 years exploring Central and Southern Africa. He was the first European to see Victoria Falls, which he named after Queen Victoria. He also discovered Lake Ngami and the Zambezi River.

Livingstone's explorations were not only scientific but also humanitarian. He was a strong advocate for the abolition of the slave trade. He also worked to promote Christianity and education in Africa. Livingstone's work had a profound impact on the continent. He helped to open up Africa to exploration and trade. He also helped to spread Christianity and education.
